English in Taiwan

While World Englishes scholarship has always been concerned with different types of English varieties, Expanding Circle (i.e., non-postcolonial) have had a ‘late start’ in being added to its research remit. As result, much important work this area remains be done. general and Asian particular are still neglected many handbooks (e.g., The Cambridge Handbook ; Schreier, Hundt & Schneider, 2020). Notable exceptions here are, for example, Routledge (Kirkpatrick, 2020; including, among others, chapters on Japanese, Chinese, Slavic Englishes) (Bolton, Botha Kirkpatrick, Taiwanese, Cambodian, Indonesian Englishes). traditionally focus laid matters language policies, education, attitudes, corpus linguistic approaches become more relevant (see, e.g., Edwards, 2016 the Netherlands; Rüdiger, 2019 South Korea). In article, we present first results from corpus-based study Taiwanese English, drawing pilot version spoken corpus.
